These are a great first project for getting used to your sewing machine. You can make these any size but a piece of A4 paper folded length ways is a good size (you can use this piece of paper folded down the centre line)
 
What you will need:
Main fabric and lining a piece about the size of a sheet of A4 of each is more than enough.
Matching thread (although I usually use white)
Pins
Sewing machine
Fabric scissors 
fastening, button, snap or velcro
